The sound of Sarah Stone has been developed and hand crafted over a 2 year period to provide a style that has a strong precision in detail yet comes across with a finesse of simplicity.

"The idea to take on this project firstly originated after my keyboard broke leaving myself with no instruments to write with in my house that caused me to spend some time to reflect on what music I wanted to make and as corny as it sounds, who I wanted to be... I like to call this stage of my life the “Ice Age”.

Shortly after, I swapped my friend for a bag of my old op shop clothes (no I am not homeless) for her standard acoustic guitar that was barely used and still in a moderate condition for second hand.

That compromise turned out to be the best decision I have made till date.

I taught myself for months with no prior training how to not only play the guitar but also begin to appreciate what it does and how it becomes an extension of the body acting as the feeding line to communicate your thoughts into sound to people willing to listen.

And so began the creation of putting my piles and piles of songs scribbled on scrunched up paper to a soundtrack that slowly overtime started to develop into something potentially interesting.

After listening to “Blinding” from the album “Lungs” By Florence and the Machine I knew that the music I wanted to perform needed to have a depth and a strong punch that comes from the sound of vibration and drums. I think drums have the most profound effect on feeling music and it is something that shakes you to the core. Literally.

When I first listened to the Boy and Bear Album “Moonfire” I automatically got Goosebumps from the sound that resinated from my speakers and I knew that I wanted to make music just like that. I would definitely say that my biggest inspiration in terms of actual sound production though would have to be Kimbra.
The quality and completeness of her album “Vows” opened my mind to the world of engineering and really allowed me to focus on the difference in sound quality and the effect it had on the listener. It made me focus more in-depth on the sound that was not only going in but coming out.

A couple of years on and now I am only a few  months away from finishing my self titled and completely self-written EP “lumière noire - volume one” which for those of you who don’t speak fluent French translates to “Black Light”.

The reason I chose this name is due to the factor that Black Light also referred to as UV or ultraviolet light shows what can appear at first invisible to the naked eye.
The last song I wrote for the EP is what sparked the concept of black light and it is reflected in many tones throughout the EP. I have focused heavily on just getting everything out in my mind in the most honest and completely direct fashion as I possibly could.  I guess you could say that this work is a compilation of what I have not necessarily made obvious to others.

So I guess you can say the “lumière noire” concept is also a reflection of myself and how I only show the parts of my life I want others around me to see.

With the EP coming out in the next several months it is my intention to play as many shows as I can as gigging to me is a huge part of my love for this art. I love connecting with my fan base and playing shows that vary from small acoustic get togethers to large scale full sized shows.

I think having a nice diverse range of performance settings lets you connect with people in a real intimate or open way.

My goal overall for this EP was to produce a soundtrack that was not only musically appealing composition wise, but also had a strong focus on the content of lyrics.  I wanted to cultivate a solid balance between good sound and authentic emotion and I hope that the finished product is a projection of all of the above.

Upcoming shows and events can be found in the link provided bellow so keep an eye out if you would like to come and see the shenanigans we get up to in the flesh.
